The Hudson Grannies Aid Of Africa

It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.  — The Dalai Lama

Hello everyone, I have some amazing news that our family is very eager to share with all of you. Just this week eleven new seamstresses joined our family. Now we are all coming together to fight against COVID-19 with our sewing skills. These people are talented and full of heart that extends across the continents. Five of our eleven seamstresses are a part of a group called Hudson Grannies Aid for Africa. All their gains will be donated to the Foundation. I had the pleasure of talking to Dolores, co-founder of the Hudson Grannies Aid for Africa group, and Glena a current member, to gain a better understanding of what they do. In 2007 Dolores and her friend discovered the Stephen Lewis Foundation and decided that they were going to aid that cause. Written on their foundation website, the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) “works with community-level organizations that are turning the tide of HIV & AIDS in Africa by providing care and support to women, orphaned children, grandmothers and people living with HIV & AIDS. Since 2003, we have funded over 1800 initiatives, partnering with more than 325 community-based organizations in the 15 African countries hardest hit by the global AIDS pandemic.” With this in mind, Dolores gathered fifteen to twenty active Hudson members, and every year they raise roughly 10, 000 dollars to aid grandmothers in Africa. These women are one of 250 grandmother groups across the country. Wanting to know more, I asked Dolores why she wanted to support this particular foundation. She said that she feels particularly fortunate in her life, and has access to many things these grandmothers do not due to their harsh circumstances. With the COVID-19 pandemic, it is only now that we truly grasp how devastating pandemics can be. And as always, the less fortunate get hit the hardest. Now, these African grandmothers are fighting two battles at once, one against COVID-19 and the other against the AIDS pandemic, all the while single-handedly raising their grandchildren. This is why I was so inspired by the work that Dolores and her group are doing to support this foundation. Our five amazing Grannies Aid for Africa seamstresses are helping us make masks and in return, all of the proceeds they make will be given to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Only in solidarity can we beat this pandemic, and as Helen Keller once said: “ Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” A big thank you to all of our supporters and new members of the adoremask family,

Stay home and stay safe, All the love from the adore mask family
